Monet painted this scene full of softness in the garden of his first house in Argenteuil. His 6 years old son Jean is sitting on the ground, absorbed in his game. Two women, one being probably Camille, Monet s wife, stand in the background.
Monet included a still life in the middle of this large canvas. The light on the table reminds to the sun and shadow effect of "the Luncheon on the Grass".
