Claude Monet, "Water-Lily Pond" Poster 71 x 99 cm
Water-Lily Pond, Claude Monet 1899, oil on canvas 93 x 74 cm, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York USA. Features the Japanese Bridge.
Painting Description :
In 1899 Monet painted a series of at least 17 views of the footbridge over the pond in his garden at Giverny among wich 13 were included in an exhibition of his work at the Durand-Ruel gallery in 1900.
The vertical rectangle of the canvas makes it possible to give prominence to the water-lilies without reducing too much the space available for the vegetation in the background.
The arched bridge was probably modeled on a bridge depicted in one of the many Japanese prints that Monet collected.
