Painting Description :
Monet landscaped the terraces of the house he rented in Vetheuil, which lead down to the Seine. The boy in the foreground is his second son Michel, in the background stands his step son Jean-Pierre Hoschede.
The large flowerpots were Monet s, and he took them with him each time he moved, using them in other gardens. They can still be seen in his garden in Giverny.
